This is basic .. but I can't find any guidance on it.

I want to use Diarium to collect my diaries from the 1980s .. in Outlook a simple CTRL-G lets me go directly to the date I want to diary. That doesn't seem work in Diarium where I have to scroll back through decades and years .....

Is there an equivalent to Outlook style CTRL-G that I've missed?

So what you are missing is a keyboard shortcut?
Did you try to click on the date in the top left corner in the calendar view (twice)? Still requires scrolling then, but much less.
I'm assuming you are using Diarium on Windows?

timo Hi Timo, thank you for your prompt response to my enquiry. I should explain the context - after using and comparing several online diary tools, I've chosen Diarium for a retirement project of matching up photos, diary entries and existing Outlook calendar items & web links .. with the possibility I might want then to export the whole lot to Word as the foundation for a written memoir. There will be at least a few hundred entries that I expect I will have to go back and forth between over coming months, probably thousands of times.

I have tried the method(s) you refer to but, as far as I can tell, each available method involves multiple steps. At one point you have a dialogue that looks very much like the Outlook version, but it doesn't let the user just type in the required date.

In Outlook I can just type in the date 1/9/1980 which the Outlook control converts into what you can see in the screenshot as Mon 01/09/1980 and immediately takes me to the required date in the Calendar. Unless, I'm doing the wrong thing, the existing Diarium routines involve quite a lot of clicking and scrolling, which isn't ideal in a date-oriented app.

So, yes a single click to a dialogue box like the screenshot attached -- a longstanding Outlook on Windows CTRL-G function would be a marvellous extension to Diarium, accompanied by the CTRL-T ("back to Today") companion.

When I say 'click', I mean either a dedicated icon, or (my preference) the equivalent keyboard shortcut.

Windows doesnt provide a date entry control that supports text input out-of-the box, that's why Diarium uses the "calendar style" one.
Just to be clear - you need to click this area:

The you can fast-scroll through months. You can even click that area again and then fast scroll through years:

This is the "default" Windows way to navigate through a calendar. The same UI is used in the small calendar on the bottom right of Windows .
I am not happy with that default either, but I hope that Microsoft improves it in the future. I would need to implement my own textbox and it would be kind of tricky - mainly because of the vast amount of different date formats around the world.

Thanks for your response Timo .. it's a pity, I understand the problem. I suppose I'd assumed there were such controls available. I hope you eventually find some way of implementing the suggestion.

Meanwhile, our communication has given me an idea - I'll probably do much of the collation work inside Outlook, and take advantage of Diarium's capacity to recognise and connect with my Outlook entries to establish a connection into Diarium for each date I need.

Still using Picasa for EXIF tagging of my photos (which will naturally be part of my project), but I guess I'll be taking a look at your Geotagging functionality as well.
