New app logo for Diarium (with poll)

Hey Diarium users!

After changing to the current Diarium logo around 2 years ago, I never was really happy with it and just waited until I found some time to search for a new one. I hired some designers on Fiverr to gather some ideas for a new logo.
I picked the best ones, which I want to present here to hear your feedback on them. Details and colors can still be changed (especially on the last two). So feel free to let me know which logo you think is perfect and which could be perfect with some adjustments 🙂

You can also suggest other logo ideas. Because Diarium features a calendar as a prominent UI element, the logo should have that element in the app logo as well.

timo If you update for Diarium then you'll have to update for your rest apps too. I like how logos are consistent for your apps.

used to the current logo...but it will be nice if you can differentiate the current one from others note taking app logo...
b & c both look similar to the current one..but i think the current one is much better...
d - looks like calendar app more than a diary app
e --- at first glance..i thought it is some kind of robot eating a carrot XD
F ---there is a bookmark hint..but not sure is notetaking app or what..

harshit What is the problem with the logos suggested? How are e.g. options B and C not consistent with the logos of my other apps?

@all: When voting for an option I would also love to hear why you chose it. When voting for the current logo: Do you vote for it because it's the current logo and you are "used" to it or is there some other reason?

timo I was going to suggest C originally but, still it will be a bit off from your other logos due to a thicker outline of the calendar.

timo I like E for the design. It evolves from the current design with a hint of colour to make it more prominent on the screen

Me neither, but I just don't like the current logo. I think it doesn't look very professional. I chose it because of the lack of alternatives at the time.
Can you perhaps elaborate why you don't like the alternatives? It will help me understand your choice. Maybe these are small things that you don't like but could be removed/changed?

D + E + F are quite experimental and I understand that they would require some time to get used to (which is not ideal for an app logo obviously).

The colors and background can and will be changed (to match the blue gradient of the other logos). It should show a calendar and quill. Maybe not immediately identifiable.

B shows a "pen" as calendar header. I like the visual simplicity and that it is the most "balanced" icon. But I agree that it might be too abstract.

That logo can still be changed so if you have any ideas/suggestions on how to improve it, I am all ears 😉

I do like the idea B, the integration of the pencil is neat, but I don't like the gradient/faded colors in either B or C. I think B would look better with solid lines that don't fade out. However I don't prefer the focus on the "calendar" element. I don't like D at all, it looks like a silly face. I'm actually fine with the current logo: it's clean and very clearly communicates the function of the app. But the last one (F) is very pretty, bold colors, and focuses more on the journal element rather than the calendar element. So I chose F. My second choice would be A, the current logo, OR B if it were made into solid lines instead of fading/gradient in areas.

timo I like these much better, especially the first two! Personally I find the slightly-faded squares in the third one makes the icon look slightly more "busy" - which is what I thought about the previous versions with the faded lines too. Keeping all of the elements the same color makes it look cleaner and easier to understand visually, at least for me. 🙂

KellyCreighton I might need to make another poll in a few days. I increasingly sure that I want to use some variant of option C...

I like the style of B the best, but my issue with B through E is that it they just look like calendars. Also, though it's clear now that you mention it, I had no idea that the thing at the top of B was a pencil. I do like the version of B you posted without the faded dots better than the original B.

F looks good, but the colors are weird to me. It looks like the scales of a rainbow fish.

I feel like a remake of A to be more in the style of B might be better

But the current logo A does also represent a calendar, doesn't it?
Or do the lines instead of the calendar "tiles" change the perception so much?
Would you welcome a version of logo C that has lines instead of the tiles/squares?

Yes, I think the good thing about the current logo (A) is that the lines (instead of tiles) represent the journal element, while the shape of it and the rings at the top represent a calendar.

And yes, I think that a version of C (or B, which I actually think is more interesting/unique) with lines instead of tiles/squares would be the best option

To be honest, none of them. I have about 40 icons on my app bar and I always have to hunt a bit to spot Diarium. The ones that stand out most have either a strong logo (like Ulysses or Eagle) or a capital letter of the app (like BBEdit). The quill has been used a lot as an icon for writing over the years and I think it is tired imagery. My suggestion would be something that hints at a calendar but with a big 'D' on it. Something like the Apple Calendar app logo but with a 'D' instead of the date, and perhaps the current year at the top instead of the month. Or, you could just remove the quill from the current logo and replace it with a bold 'D'.

harshit Of course it would be best if all my apps had the same style. But I think with the same blue background gradient and white foreground color, they are already similar enough.
Glad to hear you like option C - I started to think that noone likes that logo 😬

BlueDevil I agree, the lines are better than the (days/)tiles because lines represent the text in a journal - the main functionality of Diarium. It's better to avoid making it look too much like a "Calendar" app because that's not what it is.
