[Poll] Placeholders for heading & text

I received some feedback from users who asked me to remove the placeholder texts for the entry headline ("Dear diary...") & text ("Today I have..."). Mainly because they are too "girly", which I can understand.
So I don't think removing those hints/placeholders is the best option here, mainly because it gives a visual hint that there are two text fields and not just one. What do you think about this? Should the placeholders be removed or changed? Would love to hear your opinion!

timo Why not make it a text field that users can use to create their own word or phrase through the setup process?

timo I think they should be customized... I see some awesome uses for them (for instance, I like to title entries, particularly when I'm writing in my book of shadows, where entries need to be separate regarding both my every day and my altered consciousness. Otherwise, I get confused.) that's just one example.

How about just "Title" and "Text"?

Adele Thanks for the suggestion. I added it to the poll. I find those words a bit "uninspiring" but I've seen other apps use them (or slight variants of it) as well.
By the way, does the word "title" make more sense to you than "headline"? I always thought "headline" is the better word in that context.

Why not? Headline is ok too. It's just a placeholder that disappears as soon as i type 😉

Adele right, I don't think much about the placeholder of the headline field either but I've received feedback from some users who do and that's why I started this poll to get a sense what the "average Diarium user" is thinking 🙂
If for some users this is a reason not to use the app, I might think of an alternative that is accepted by more users

Love using the app, sync'd bet my iPhone and windows desktop.

The headline "Dear diary" could be changed to "Subject" and be treated as property field for future features for the application, like search results listing, link for cross reference ...
For all purposes it is just the first line in the entry.
The "Today I have..." should be just "Text"

I do not see the need to be configurable ... but if you do, it's more work and need to keep the configuration.

I think it conflicts with the templates you would like to use however when i want to use Dear Diary (it shows up randomly) it’s faded ~ and stays faded… yes i do move my cursor right past it. Stays shaded … i just rather they be gone if it’s just going to stay faded . Love this app sooo much as u know. 👏

Keldoll not exactly sure what you mean but you can either write something in the header field to have the "faded" placeholder to be gone or remove the headings altogether in the app settings

DF No, I can't make a separate setting for every little details like this. This would clutter the app way too much. I need to find a good default that applies to all users

I am good with the way the placeholders for heading & text currently works. While it may seem `girly in nature, I just over write it with whatever I am thinking about at the time. I don't see a need to change or bloat the App.

I am still testing out the Android version. Well Done!!!

The "Dear diary..." and "Today I have..." placeholder texts are the only things I can't stand about this app. I place an ellipsis (...) in each field in a custom template in order not to see them. Otherwise the app is great.

I created a default template with Subject in lieu of Dear diary, and a blank

It would be really neat to be able to search for a keyword only in the Subject line. Without much thinking, a search for something like Subject%keyword would work ... searching for items that have Subject AND keyword.

Kat M. Moss Maybe I don't understand what you mean, but you can totally enter whatever title you want. This poll was just about the placeholder that is shown when there is no title entered.
